Precious Shephard by Kevin Layton
Photographer Kevin Layton presents Precious Shephard in an outdoor nude photography editorial created in the hills of California’s Central Valley.
Working primarily with natural light, Layton uses the textures, colors and changing light of the landscape to create relaxed images built around natural movement and the female form.
Kevin Layton and Precious Shephard had known each other for some time before creating this series. She was already a friend and long-time client, but this was their first nude photography session together.
The location lies around thirty minutes from their homes in the hills of California’s Central Valley. Although the area can be heavily trafficked, arriving early and choosing the right time allowed them to work in quiet, secluded surroundings.
Layton prefers natural light and often returns to locations discovered while scouting for clients. He is particularly drawn to the textures, colors and light found outdoors, describing nature itself as a form of art.
After nearly twenty years of photography, people remain his favorite subject — particularly the female form. His approach is to give the person in front of the camera enough freedom to move naturally, adding only limited direction so that gestures and poses develop organically.
